Background

I grew up on the east coast of Canada and my pursuit of learning has taken me to live in a number of places: Vancouver, British Columbia; Davis, California and Zurich, Switzerland.

I was always looking to exercise my creativity and I tend to work on problems directly and empirically. When I started teaching myself woodworking I knew I had found something satisfying both intellectually and physically. I continuously assess design concepts, technique and aesthetics. With each piece something new is learned. For me discovery in science and art are not that different, in both cases one is revealing something new about yourself and nature through careful observation, use of past experience and technical skill.

I am currently secretary of The Vancouver Wood Arts Society and a member of The Furniture Society.
